Marvin Elroy Bruington
Marvin Elroy Bruington, Age 87 of Brandenburg, KY, went to be with his Father
on April 1, 2013. Elroy was surrounded by his family at Harrison County
Hospital when he passed away.

Elroy was born August 30, 1925 in Harned, KY to the late Marvin and Lora
Wilson Bruington.  He was raised in Irvington and Brandenburg, KY. He
assisted his father at Bruington Service Station and began working for
Sturgeon Funeral Home at 16.  He was a graduate of Meade County High
School and also attended Kentucky Wesleyan College. At age 17 he joined the
Navy as a corpsman and was a WWII/Korean Veteran.  When he returned he
married Bettyruth Frymire.  While raising three children he was a rural letter
carrier for the United States Postal Service.  He was a faithful member of
Brandenburg United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for over fifty
years. Elroy was a volunteer firefighter for over thirty years serving in both
Brandenburg and Payneville.  He was Fire Chief of the Brandenburg VFD for
twenty years. One of the founding members of the Dixie Firemen's
Association, he also was a trainer for DFA and numerous fire departments.
Elroy was a mentor and trainer of numerous young men and women in various
volunteer fire departments in Meade County, always emphasizing safety,
knowledge, and proper equipment in firefighting.  

After retiring from the USPS, Elroy joined his son John at
Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home.  He remained a licensed Funeral
Director and Embalmer from 1953 until his death. He loved working there and
had a compassionate heart that ministered to many families.

Elroy and Bettyruth's home was destroyed in the 1974 tornado they lost almost
everything they owned including his beloved Cessna 140 airplane.  They later
rebuilt their home on the same property and replaced the airplane with a
Cessna 170.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Evelyn Jones Bruington
Moremen, brother-in-law Willis Green Moremen.

He is survived by:  his beloved wife of 62 years, Bettyruth Frymire Bruington;
children, Michael (Jackie) Bruington and John (Debbie) Bruington of
Brandenburg, and  Nancy (Ron) Cheak of Shelbyville, KY; grandchildren, Ginny
(Ryan) Kelley, Jonathan Bruington, Kenny (Kelly) Bruington, Betsy Bruington,
Benjamin (Courtney) Mohler, Daniel (Jessica) Mohler, Jennifer (Michael)
Mudd, Jessie Cheak; great-aunt Nancy Bruington; cousins, Charles Bruington,
Emily Bruington; niece and nephew, David (Pat) Moremen, Lee Ann (Dave)
Toy; grand-niece Erica Cook; special extended family, Maryse and Tabitha
Parrish, Vivian Johnston, Grady Johnston, Valli Johnston, family of Kathy
Packard, Rick Neafus, Stefan Shelley, many others loved and mentored by
Elroy over the years; devoted caregivers, Jamie Tillitt, Stacy Trent, Valli
Johnston, Kenda Brown.

Funeral Service will be held at the Brandenburg United Methodist Church,
Friday April 5, 2013 at 2:00 P.M.EDT, with burial to follow in Eastlawn
Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home, Thursday,
April 4, 2013 from 2-8:00 P.M. EDT and Friday, at the Brandenburg United
Methodist Church after 10:00 A.M.
